Has The Asylum done it right for once?

On my birthday this past weekend, my buddy Jonathan and I were perusing The Asylum, the wonderful company who has made wonderful movies which were knock-offs of films such as:

I Am Omega ... (A mix of "Omega Man" and "I am Legend")

Well we came across the trailer for the upcoming Princess of Mars, based on the Edgar Rice Burroughs science fiction novel.

Well, while I don't know how good or bad the script is based on this teaser, nor do I know how well acted it is, I do have to say that the effects do appear to be of much higher quality than I'm normally used to (the ones in the War of the Worlds films they made were "terrible"). It also has filters applied to it and something other than the "set the camera down and shoot" style that many of these films have.

I'm not that familiar with the work itself, but I'm not sure that Antonio Sabato Jr. can really pass himself off as Virginian Confederate soldier, John Carter. Though judging on one of the screen shots I saw, I'm guessing he's just going to be a modern day US Soldier.

The film will be released December 29, 2009. We'll then be able to see if they've infused a little passion into this production.

This is going to be interesting to see as well.

I'm more stoked to see this get integrated into the actual Watchmen film, and see how exactly it all plays out, as one, huge epic 3+ hour film. This is of course, assuming that Watchmen will be good. I don't go in assuming that it won't somehow be a complete failure, but if it does not deliver, it may end up being the biggest disappointments I have ever had with a film in recent memory. Less than 23 and a half hours to go...

Legend Of Zelda Movie

Actually, this, along with Metroid, is one of those properties I'm shocked hasn't been greenlit.

Is it because of the 1993 disaster, Super Mario Bros.?

Pac Man: The Movie

Again, a film that Uwe Boll won't be able to make.

An interesting concept - so absurd - so good.

Cloverfield, Star Trek, and Sarah Connor

Today's been a pretty intense week so far. The premiere of "Terminator: The Sarah Connor Chronicles" premiered with 18 million viewers.

The one unfortunate aspect to "Terminator: The Sarah Connor Chronicles" is that the producers have stated that it exists in a "separate" universe from T3. Why? Why would they open themselves up to this kind of scrutiny and confusion from fans and non-fans alike?

A perfect theory is that Terminator 3 "never" happened. Personally I feel they should have tied it directly into the 3rd film by going about what the 2nd (and 3rd) film was stating - that time is fluid and events can be changed. Why couldn't they have figured out a way to send back agents to stop the T-X and stop Robert Brewster's Skynet system.

There we go! Problem solved. Judgment Day moves to a later date and Sarah doesn't die from cancer. Heck, even a brief overview or exposition scene where the character Cameron Phillips explains this. Heck, they've pulled enough from the 3rd film to the point where they just can't explain it away by saying it "doesn't exist" in the "TV" universe.

The other alternative is that the show will eventually lead to Terminator 3, and thusly negating the entire series existence.

Convoluted? Perhaps. Logical, maybe.

Cloverfield
Cloverfield comes out this coming Friday. I hope to see it opening day or Saturday.

Star Trek
The teaser will be seen during Cloverfield's trailers. If they even show anything of substance we'll quickly see if this will be cinema gold or cinematic crap.
